Replacing Pre-Packaged Wafer and Juice Sets For Communion By Bill English
Prepackaged wafer and juice combination sets, one widely used, are no longer available. These were sold to churches in order to save time during services, and to save labor used in preparing serving trays of disposable cups.
You have Easter coming up and passing the plates takes up way too much time. If you have been given the responsibility of purchasing these, and were told that's what was used in the past, don't worry. Although there is a bit of work involved, it's the next best thing. Using a cup-filler (either a squeeze bottle or funnel with a button release) will make this chore less of a mess.
Follow these simple steps:
1. Purchase the small pillow style bread and disposable plastic communion cups.
2. Fill your cups with juice or wine about half-way.
3. Place a second disposable cup into the top of the juice cup snugly, but don't crack the cup.
4. Place one or two of the bread into the top cup.
For very large gatherings, these can be passed out as people come in in order to save a little more time.
Should you still want communion trays, they are still available. The whole body tray incorporates a small section in the center of the tray to accommodate the bread. Using this method will save some time in the service as well as time later in washing and tray care.
Another thing - should you use these trays, be careful when taking care of them. They have a lacquer finish and should only be washed with a mild soap, by hand, and dried before storage. Never use a dishwasher. Most dishwasher fluids contain abrasives which will ruin the finish.
