Leah Ebersol has patiently waited several years for her one true love to return to their Gobbler's Knob Amish community. Jonas Mast had gone to Ohio following a hurtful misunderstanding caused by feuding parents.
Having discovered that Leah had remained faithful to their love even after so long, he could do nothing less than go back to her and do whatever the bishop deemed necessary to prove himself worthy of the People. Even if it meant giving up his love of woodworking and spending his life toiling in the fields or the blacksmith shop instead.
Jonas's return would ultimately spark another, one that would bring with it the inevitability of opening long-buried secrets. Jonas's younger brother, Jake, comes back to Gobbler's Knob under the pretense of speaking to the bishop on Jonas's behalf. In actuality, he wishes to court and eventually marry Leah's sister Lydiann.

Beverly Lewis has a very lyrical way of writing that is just spellbinding. Her descriptive prose will gently place the reader in Amish country among the various families that make Grasshopper Level home.
Leah Ebersol's childhood sweetheart, Jonas has come back home in order to marry her. He has always loved her and he wants a life with her. First though, he must go through the "proving" before he will be considered acceptable for marriage and being able to return to the spiritual fold. But will they be able to marry at the end of this time? At the same time Jona's brother Jake has decided to return to the same area. He loves Lydiann, but a dark secret will keep these two from finding a happy ending. Will someone finally break the silence and explain why Lydiann and Jake can't have a marriage of love? And will they be able to find happiness despite this dark secret?
Not having read the previous four titles of this series, I felt as if I was playing catch up trying to keep names, relationships, and what have you straight. Still, Ms. Lewis created a wonderful little world that I cared enough about to try and figure what on earth was going on. This did require some back tracking I admit. Ms. Lewis has carefully and with a great deal of creativity, created a wonderful setting with enough detail to put the reader in the middle of Amish country. Again this was a good read but not a strong stand alone read. I recommend picking up the previous titles before picking up this one. I'm sure that this read will be more satifying to be sure if you did.

I used to be into mystery and sci fi novels, but lately I have turned away from those and have found a genre more fulfilling. It contains books that are written for a reason, written with the intention of not only informing and entertaining the reader, but also inspiring and igniting feelings of hope and love within the reader. The Revelation fits into that genre.
One must first read the other three novels in the Abram's Daughters series in order to understand what is going on in The Revelation--the final novel in the series. Set in the 40's in a amish town, we read about growing vegetables, dark secrets, and recapturing a lost and innocent love.
Beverly Lewis is a soft writer. She glides through paragraphs like water over a stone and she flows with ease from page to page. Her descriptions of the physical, the emotional, and the inevitable really paint a picture so well that it almost seems like we are watching The Revelation as a movie.
It is sad to say Goodbye to Leah and Jonas, but The Revelation is the perfect concluding novel to this wonderful series. Love and God shine through and we are left feeling somewhat sentimental but also satisfied.
Since I have switched to this genre, in addition to the Abram's series, I have found Nicholas Sparks books to be really amazing. I epsecially love The Notebook. Michele Geraldi's Calling in the Night is fantastic. Anything by C.S. Lewis is interesting, and Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Hurston is very good, too. I have to admit, I haven't always been a huge fan of historical fiction though I surely loved Little House On the Prairie.
THE REVELATION as well as the previous titles in this series quickly made me change my mind about historical fiction as I was immediately immersed in the plot and characters. BEVERLY LEWIS writes with deep joy, love and appreciation for her readers (old and new), filled with sweeping romance, the right dose of spiritual enlightenment and mystery, LEWIS will gently albeit wonderfully guide you into the hearts of Leah Ebersol and Jonas Mast.
After reading THE REVELATION you'll find hope in love and God's grace. If you aren't already a fan of Lewis' or historical fiction, grab a copy today. Like me, you'll be so delighted that you did.
