Reviews - What do our customers think?
 | Very pleasant story Apr 24, 2010 |
| I liked this contemporary story very much. I found the plot interesting enough to want to keep reading with every free moment. I didn't figure out who the killer was. I suspected at one point but changed my mind later. I usually prefer historical romances but found this handsome hero and the horse ranch very enjoyable and the plot believable. | | | | Not Impressed Apr 15, 2010 |
Allie loses her husband to the war. Her parents and sister also die, causing her daughter, Betsy, to stop talking. Now Allie thinks she is being targeted by a killer. So she leaves the barrel racing circuit and travels with Betsy to Bluebird Ranch, a sanctuary for injured horses and troubled teens. Her husband told her if she ever had problems to find Rick Bailey, his best friend. She also has alterior motives, as she believes the ranch owner, Elijah, is her grandfather.
Rick is a troubled man himslef, from both his childhood and the war. Although he finds himself disliking Allie, he offers to marry her so Betsy's strict grandparents won't win custody of the child. Allie agrees and then the trouble starts at the ranch. Can Rick keep Allie and Betsy safe in the face of danger?
-I only gave the book three stars because it felt very flat. The characters didn't come alive and didn't engage my attention. The book didn't make me feel the tension and fear of Allie at all, which is bad since that was almost the whole plot. The book followed the Christian fiction formula, but fell short of being a must-read. | | | | Christian- based romantic suspense. No love scenes, but plenty of Love, Faith, & Forgiveness. Great characters! Feb 15, 2010 |
This is the first book I've read by Colleen Coble. I really enjoyed it. It's clean and very faith oriented, without reading like a Bible lesson. The only down- side for me was the suspense portion of the story. I figured out "who done it" early on, so there was no real surprise or anticipation toward the end. Other than that, the book was a gripping and emotional read. There is no cursing, no vulgarity, and no adult content, which makes it appropriate for anyone ages sixteen and up.
When Allie realizes that her sister's murderer is now after her, she packs herself and her 5 year old daughter up and flees. The only place she can think to hide is the Bluebird Ranch. Known as a facility for helping troubled kids, Bluebird Ranch seems like the perfect sanctuary for Allie and her emotionally troubled daughter. The forman of the ranch is Allie's deceased husband's best friend. Her husband, Jon, had told her that if anything happened to him, she should find his friend Rick for help.
While serving together in Iraq, Jon made Rick swear to protect his wife and child in the event of Jon's death. It was a promise that Rick hoped to never have to keep. Now, a few years after losing his best friend in the war, Allie has shown up on Rick's doorstep. Devastated with guilt over Jon's death, Rick will do whatever it takes to keep his promise. Rick has sworn to never touch a gun again. He must use his mind, his strength, and his faith in God to keep Allie and little Betsy safe. | | | | Another winner Nov 23, 2009 |
| I'm looking forward to the Lonestar Sanctuary series. I held off reading this one until I had Lonestar Secrets to pick up immediately after finishing it. I love how Colleen Coble weaves her characters through the novels and even beyond series so we keep up with the lives of those we get involved in. This new setting in the desert of Texas with horses provides great new views and smells. We get to know the mysteries and the histories of these deep characters who really need to talk to each other more! I relate to the trust issues being dealt with in the series so far. I'm a fan of Colleen Coble and read everything she creates. Keep it up, Colleen! | | | | Enjoyed Lonestar Sanctuary Nov 9, 2009 |
