 | The Best Lanugage Arts Curriclum on the Market! Apr 10, 2007 |
| The language arts curriculum we were utilizing was advertised as "literature based." However it did not live up to our expectations and ended up turning our child off of language arts. We began to search for a literature based curriculum which taught language arts in a gentle, engaging format. Our search ended when we discovered "Learning Lanugage Arts Through Literature." After viewing the samples on the Common Sense Press website we ordered the curriculum. I can not praise this curriculum enough! It uses choice selections from childrens literature to teach language arts in a gentle, fun, engaging manner with stories and activities. The teachers manual is a dream come true! It is so well organized you can literally pick it up and begin teaching. I give this curriculum an A+! | | | | I love it! Apr 30, 2005 |
| I have homeschooled since 1986. My nineteen year old never saw the inside of a public school. I have 3 other children that I taught to read using LLATL. I have heard of parents who try one reading program after another and spend a lot of money on each program. This is a reasonable price (new). Used price is better. There is a kit that goes with the book that I recommend you buy and use. All four of my children have been taught with LLATL and are excellent readers. I have enjoyed teaching each one. The format is set up to be done daily, which we did, but sometimes we did more than one lesson. That would depend on you and your child. There is a recommended book list of books that you can purchase or borrow from the public library to read to your child. This is a phonics program. The only thing I would add to the program is a rule that I find is very important for the child: In words with one syllable, when there are 2 vowels, the first one is long (says itself) and the second one is silent. Example: hair There are exceptions, but works with most words. When I was young, I was taught that the vowels are a, e, i, o, u and sometimes y. This is very helpful with the aforementioned rule. Example: pray I can't think of anything I don't like about it. I used contact paper to make all the pieces in the kit last longer. I kept the pieces in envelopes to separate them from each other. My kit is still organized and in good condition after 4 children and I have one to go. You don't have to be afraid to teach reading with this program. I think it is fool proof. | | | Write your own review about Learning Language Arts Through Literature (The Blue Book) - Teachers Manual
