Item Description...
From the bestselling author of "Reimagining Church" comes an essential guide that provides practical, effective tools for finding vibrant Christian communities. Driven by a passion for the body of Christ, Frank Viola has written some of today's most authoritative and celebrated works on the growing home, organic, and missional church movements. Now Viola shares practical keys to a healthy and successful church plant. Viola contends that many congregations today are struggling to survive, not because of bad planning, but poor planting. He presents an essential guide for starting and nourishing organic churches in any culture. Drawing from both Scripture and a wealth of experience, Viola offers real-world tools, insights, and practical suggestions so churches won't just grow, but thrive.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
 | Well researched and thoughtful Apr 20, 2010 |
This book would be a lot better if it were about half as thick. If you have read Viola's other works, you can pretty much start at page 171 for the practical guide.
I didn't feel that Viola did a good job of explaining the apostle, because he starts out by showing how the church is started by an apostle, but then goes on to describe how to start a church without an apostle, and then go find one. This concerns me, as I still have great concerns over the oversight of the theology of house churches.
The pros - Viola is an incredible thinker and should not be discounted. He understands the problem and offers a solution. As we search for ways to create authentic community, I believe his book deserves to be, and should be part of the conversation.

| I have not finished reading the book yet, but what I could see and understand, Frank did an awesome job of gathering Biblical evidence as to how a church should function. I would give my opinion that 95% of the churches mix man's philosophy with the Word of God, making the worship of no effect. | | | | Will it Take Hold? Nov 25, 2009 |
Frank Viola has done believers a great service through his five books all geared toward a new paradigm of looking at church life and maturity. Based in relationship and freedom from stale ritual, his ideas may seem revolutionary to some, but are in reality the heart of the New Testament church--which so many people claim to desire, while still trying to mold it to an Americanized Christianity.
After reading "Reimagining Church," I was encouraged, yet felt there were some practical issues not addressed as to how organic church could function. Although the first third of "Finding Organic Church" deals mostly with a biblical perspective of apostleship, and its necessary place in organic church survival, Frank then steps to the plate and moves from doctrine and abstract theorizing into the realms of everyday life. Humbly, yet from two decades of experience, he offers ways to handle childcare, songs and songwriting, men and women getaways, and so on. There is little show of bitterness here (which was sometimes there in "Reimagining..." ), and the book focuses instead on how we all can be part of the body of Christ, functioning, serving, and equipping. This is good stuff.
There are times the book feels dry, perhaps needing the moistening of some of Frank's only hinted at real-life experiences. He mentions failures and successes, yet we get little to chew on in this regard. Of course, each group will be different and have separate issues, but I think the humanness that he hopes to convey gets lost at times. We also get little practical instruction on the financial side of things, how money and tithes should be dealt with, particularly if someone misuses funds and such.
Overall, this doesn't seem as fresh or groundbreaking as some of Frank's earlier books, but that is to be expected since this is the application of the paradigm shift he's been leading readers toward. In this way, it's a great addition to his library of gentle encouragement. I, too, want to see this revolution take hold. | | | | A solid and highly recommended read Nov 14, 2009 |
A church should be a second home of sorts, not a corporate-like entity. "Finding Organic Church: A Comprehensive Guide to Starting and Sustaining Authentic Christian Community" is a guide for church leaders in making a more reliable and loved community center for the Christian families that surround them. With the motto of 'origin determines destiny', author Frank Viola comes at leaders with profound wisdom making for a solid and highly recommended read that should not be missed. "Finding Organic Church" should find its way into any church's reference collection.

| This book is long overdue. Finally someone gives those outside the traditional church practical ways to make Christ visible. Frank is no theorist, nor an armchair teacher. He opens up his heart and shares with us his wisdom learned through many years of practicing organic church life. Those who meet in homes or those making the transition from the institutional church will find this book of great value. The book is a catalyst that will lead you to discover how to meet in many creative ways. It causes you to think and practice church life outside the box. This is not just another how to book. Thanks Frank for another gem. | | | Write your own review about Finding Organic Church: A Comprehensive Guide to Starting and Sustaining Authentic Christian Communionities
