Product Description Just in time for the Fourth of July, a firecracker of a Lake Wobegon novel from bestselling author and radio storyteller Garrison Keillor
Published to wide and enthusiastic acclaim, Liberty is Garrison Keillor's most ribald Lake Wobegon novel yet, set in a spectacular Fourth of July celebration amid marching bands and circus wagons drawn by teams of Percherons. The Chairman of the Fourth, Clint Bunsen, is in the midst of an identity crisis brought on by a DNA test just as he turns sixty, and he finds solace in the arms of Angelica Pflame, the young beauty who marched as Liberty in last year's parade. Should he remain in Lake Wobegon with his stoical wife Irene or fly to California with Angelica? Liberty is Keillor at his knowing, deadpan, raconteur best.

Reviews - What do our customers think?
 | Torn nearly in half Feb 2, 2010 |
| I have no doubt that the reading is good and well written but did not appreciate that it came almost cut in half. | | | | Boring, boring, boring Sep 5, 2009 |
| What can you say about a book that drones on and on and never comes to end. I enjoy listening to novels in the car and this one made me want to turn on AM talk radio...no emotion, no excitement, just endless blather. Save your money or use it before bed for a gigantic sleeping pill! | | | | A Lake Wobegone midlife crisis Aug 29, 2009 |
Clint Bunsen has his hands full, he's turning 60, a mutiny on his Fourth of July committee is leading him to distraction, a DNA test has found him to be of Spanish descent, and he's considering leaving his wife...well you get the picture. There's so much going on in Clint's frenzied life it doesn't even seem this could be taking place in Lake Wobegone. LIBERTY gives us all the traditional Keillor humor and insight, but this time it seems a bit frantic. Probably, because protagonist is such a mess. His confusion about who he is and what he wants from life seems to be a bit contrived. All this seems to hit at the same time and Clint (and the reader) is given very little time to consider the outcomes before he makes decisions, making him more a victim of circumstances rather than take control of his own destiny. Not as satisfying as some of the other Keillor books I've read, but it still has its moments; particularly in the infighting about what should or should not be allowed in the parade.
| | | | I wasn't looking for sex talk Aug 25, 2009 |
| I have always expected Garrison Keillor to transport me to a timeless place with gentle humor and very human stories. This story is very human but sex talk in a chat room doesn't make me nostalgic, it makes me sorry that I bought the book. I didn't bother to finish reading it. | | | | Tawdry Aug 8, 2009 |
| I love the previous books and have read Keillor's writing for years. But he has a bent lately to go over the edge on sexual details. It spoils the story and characters, and masks his great writing and prose. I threw the half-finished book into the airport trash can. If this book becomes a movie it would be "R" rated. | | | Write your own review about Liberty: A Novel of Lake Wobegon (Lake Wobegon Novels)
