 | Faith and Works Feb 3, 2007 |
| I treatise on why works are necessary for a believer after baptism and why doing things like penance or at least not continuing in things like adultery should be prerequisites for sacramental participation. | | | | Works really are necessary Jul 3, 2006 |
If you are interested in what Augustine thinks about grace, justification, and works, then this is a good book with which to begin. In this book Augustine addresses the antinomians of his day who were arguing that new converts to the faith should be not required to amend their behavior to be baptized. Augustine vigorously against the antinomian principles.
It's important to remember that for Augustine, the person who is baptized is justified. Works canno earn justiication: they flow from justification and confirm justification.
Anyone who thinks Augustine's sola gratis is compatible with Luther's sola fide should read this book. | | | Write your own review about 48. St. Augustine on Faith and Works (Ancient Christian Writers)
