Item Description... This unique book actually has a two-fold purpose. It's a story written especially for moms who get discouraged and feel like giving up on homeschooling, as well as a guide to nature study. It's written as the diary of one mother's year of teaching her children at home. In it she pours out her hopes, disappointments, and joy. In the course of caring for her many responsibilities, she is frequently frazzled and exhausted by nightfall. She manages by deciding to follow "the gentle art of learning"-a lifestyle of learning that helps to focus her days. She goes on nature walks with her children every Wednesday afternoon, and together they record their findings into their Nature Notebooks. Woven into the story are more than 50 examples of what to look for on a nature walk, Latin names for the living things observed by the characters, study questions, and nature poems and verses. this heartwarming story will encourage you to take joy in God's simple blessings!

| Raising children is a great privledge and joy and this book reminds you how to enoy it all! Lots of love and fun too! excited teach, Mother, and Grandmother! | | | | Should've read years ago Jun 28, 2008 |
| I have homeschooled my children for eight years, and I've often seen this book and thought that I would like to read it... but when it comes time to order books for the year, I always spend my money on "school" books. God has been telling me to "simplify" in a lot of areas of my life, so I ordered this book before ordering all of my children's books. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this story. It's written in a diary / journal format by a mother in the 1930's that has decided that public school is not best for her children. She was given a copy of Charlotte Mason's book and slowly starts to implement her style of teaching. This book is so sweet and it is a great story. I was sad when I got to the end. This book makes me want to be a better homeschool teacher, a sweeter mother, and a more loving and understanding wife. | | | | A delightful book about nature studies Apr 19, 2008 |
I just love the way learning at home and by doing nature studies was woven into a fictional account of a homeschool family.
It is a charming book. Yes, it is fiction but it also contains a great deal of practical information for any family wanting to do nature studies. | | | | Zzzzzz Dec 27, 2007 |
| I admire Karen Andreola and feel that she has done so much for the Charlotte Mason movement. However, I felt this book was so unrealistic. So much so that I could not finish it. It was slow and contrived. I can see some people enjoying this book but it was certainly not for me. | | | | Absolutely fabulous book Jun 16, 2007 |
| I have just finished a beautiful book by Karen Andreola called "Pocketful of Pinecone". I really like it because it was written in diary style. Set in the mid 1930 a new homeschooling mother shares her first year journey with a Charlotte Mason nature study with her 2 children. I recommend this hard to put down never wanting it to end book to any homeschooling mom for either a fun read or inspiration to start nature study with their own children | | | Write your own review about Pocketful of Pinecones: Nature Study With the Gentle Art of Learning : A Story for Mother Culture ®
