Product Description
Every once in a while, down through the pages of time, the life and works of one man forever changes the lives of millions of people. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was such a man. WHY WOULD AN OLD WHITE LADY WRITE A CHILDREN'S BOOK EXTOLLING DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.? The answer is simple: the hurt in a wounded soldier s eyes. This is her story of why she wrote Listen To My Dream I remember the day I helped black soldiers, soldiers who had given their young bodies for their nation, courageous men from places like California and Washington state, into my car and took them for a short ride to the local dairy bar for a long-anticipated ice cream cone. For months they had languished in the hospital, living for any opportunity to get out. I remember the profound hurt I saw in their eyes when they saw hanging from the shop s two front windows, signs they had never before seen: Whites Only. I had grown up with it; it was just the way things were. But through their eyes I saw ugliness and hate. I felt angry stares from the nearby cars, heard unknown voices whispering, What s a white girl doing here with a Negro in the front seat? They didn t know that the soldier couldn t get out he lost his legs fighting a war for them. What I saw through their eyes that day made me so ashamed. In rhythmic manner, Debi presents Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. s dream . She begins with the dream of a boy, the son of a preacher and a teacher born at a time when for many, dreams were just that: dreams with little or no hope of being realized. She continues as he grows, refusing to accept that and not only dreamed but labored to make that dream a reality. Throughout his life he shares his dream with others, inviting them to also dream and join him in his labors. Although in life he only reached the mountaintop his dream lives on and has become a reality for many over the years. Listen To My Dream will captivate readers young and old with its engaging storytelling and colorful artwork. Follow the life of the young boy that would become Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. as he dreams, shares his dream and then lives and gives his life to make that dream a reality for others. This book will remind those who may have lived so long as to have forgotten the dream and will introduce the dream to a generation that has benefited from the dream without even knowing of it. Very Interesting  Jan 20, 2010
Michael and Debi Pearl are professing Christians. One night a few years ago in Jacksonville Florida, I gathered up my family (8 of us) plus several extended family members to go and hear a presentation given by Michael Pearl at a local church. He had some good things to say, but a few days afterwards it dawned on me that he had not mentioned the Lord Jesus Christ even once. I find it hard to believe that a Christian can give a lengthy presentation on the principles of child rearing and not say anything about Christ. As a pastor, I know that I could not go very long without speaking of Christ in such a presentation. So take that however you will. I still say that they have many good things to say about child rearing, but this book by Debi Pearl is really out of left field for a genuine Bible believing Christian to write. Real briefly here are the facts that show that MLK was no Christian and no role model: 1)He may or may not have been a communist, but he most definitely sympathized with much of the communist philosophy 2)He was a major plagiarist 3) He denied the orthodox and fundamental doctrines of Christianity including an orthodox view of the Scriptures 4)He was a serial adulterer [check out Ralph Abernathy's book --And The Walls Came Tumbling Down 5) He was a serial agitator who exhibited all the signs of passive aggressive behavior [in other words, he was no true pacifist]. 6)He dishonestly used black baptist churches to promote his political agenda which was far more Gandhian [Gandhi practiced drinking his own urine] than Christian. FBI files on MLK are sealed for 50 years; I wonder why?
There are other Black people that Debi Pearl could have written about -- Black people who have actually done something for the world.

Psalm 105:4
P.S. Of course, this politically correct book could be a real money maker for the Pearls.

WONDERFUL Teaching Tool!!  Jan 5, 2010
LISTEN TO MY DREAM allows me to introduce my little ones to a time in our history that was pivotal in securing the rights of all citizens.

I'm always looking for books that are visually stimulating and sound good when read aloud. This book fills that bill beautifully with its lyrical prose. The fact that this is also about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. makes it educational as well, moving it to my favorites list.

Rather than a lot of dry facts, the story covers his childhood and key influences in Dr. King's life, placing events in a context which can be grasped by children. While the book speaks about the fact that there were bad people that did bad things, it is presented in an informative way - not gratuitous. The illustrations are colorful, simple and are good likenesses of the people represented (I think). The language used tugs at the heart on many levels - especially when a young Martin asks his mother why things are the way they are.

This is an honest book that reminds me what can happen when we aren't afraid to stand for what is right. The author even includes a summary of the Civil Rights movement on the last few pages and the role played by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

In my opinion, this volume should be in every elementary school library.

Debi Pearl's newest book  Jan 5, 2010
The book is written as a poem, covering the life of Martin Luther King from childhood through his death. It begins when Martin Luther King was a boy wondering why he was black and not treated the same as others. His teacher inspired him to dream big dreams and to influence others for good. He determined to do just that.

Since he was `colored' as Negroes were called at that time, he and his people in the South did not have the freedoms the white people did. Thus, when Rosa Parks refused to give up her front bus seat for a white person, King organized a boycott of the Montgomery, Alabama bus system until colored people were treated equally. This eventually led to the Supreme Court ruling of 1956 that outlawed such discrimination.

The book is lilting in its poetic meter and, as far as it goes, does a good job of presenting the value of setting good goals and letting nothing hinder you from reaching them. The poem ends with King's funeral following his murder in Memphis, April 4, 1968.

The 40 page soft covered book is written in two parts. As stated above, the first part is the poetic overview of King's life emphasizing the good he did toward racial equality. The second part is a more detailed outline of the civil rights movement and King's part in it, written in narrative form and without illustrations.

The first part of the book is fully illustrated with drawings made by the author and her husband. In places where the poem hints at influences in King's life, a brief detail is given. For example, the one who encouraged him to dream big was his teacher, Miss Lemon, from Oglethorpe Elementary.

This book Listen To My Dream focuses on King's part in bringing about social justice for the blacks. In this he is certainly worthy of recognition.

Debi's other best seller is The Vision #The Last Publishers series# #The Publishers#, also available in the Kindle format The Vision #The Last Publishers#.
